Kansai Electric will increase the tariffs for the household sector for the second time

AtomInfo.Ru, PUBLISHED 18.12.2014

Kansai Electric Power Co. will be forced to increase electricity tariffs for household sector for the second time after the accident at Fukushima.

The tariff increase is due to the shutdown of all nuclear units operated by the company after the events of 2011 and the need to buy fuel for thermal power plants.

The company intends to submit the appropriate request to the ministry of industry on December 17, after final decision on the desired increase in tariffs.

"It is a difficult decision, but we have no other choice," the company's president Makoto Yagi told journalists.

Before the accident at Fukushima the Kansai Electric Power Co. was produced at nuclear power plants 45% of the total generation.

In may 2013 the company was forced to raise tariffs for the household sector by 9.75% by average. The increase was calculated under the condition that four stopped reactor will be able to get back in line at the second half of the year, but it never happened.
