Czech Republic to build three units till 2040 - Deputy Minister

AtomInfo.Ru, PUBLISHED 18.12.2014

The Czech Republic will build three new nuclear units until 2040 - two on Temelin and one on Dukovany.

It is recorded in the project of the energy development concept, submitted to the Government of the Czech Republic for approval, said Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Paul Sholts.

"It is expected that in 2040 the dominant source of energy will be nuclear, about 50% of electricity," - said the official.

"The next element is a renewable source of energy, which should gradually reach by 2040 its possible level in our country, that is about 25%, and we expect that the coal will be presented too."

Sholts confirmed that the draft concept envisages the construction of three new nuclear reactors by 2040, with two blocks appear on the Temelin NPP and one on the Dukovany NPP.

Sholts evaded a direct answer to the question about the sources of funding: "This is an issue which is still being discussed. There are three financial models, and one of it could be used."

Official listed all three models. The first one is based on the fact that the construction will be carried out without state support - by CEZ alone or with any partner.

The second model envisages the creation of a consortium with a strategic partner. In the third model, the units will be built by a state-owned company of the Czech Republic, in which the state will be the sole owner.
