Khristenko: Russia and Chine cooperation shouldn't restricted by Tianwan NPP

According to Rosatom press-center, minister of industry and power of the RF Victor Khristenko declared at the press-conference in Beijing on Tuesday that the cooperation between Russia and Chine in the area of nuclear power should not restricted by the only construction of Tianwan NPP.

"Tianwan NPP is the first Russian-Chinese project in this area, but I believe it will be not the last", - minister said.

According to Khristenko, Russia and Chine have the "similar plans for development of nuclear power and experience of Tianwan, sometimes not simple experience, are a positive fact for further expansion of cooperation in nuclear sphere".

Khristenko also told that during exchange of vies with the chairmen of National Development and Reform Commission of China Ma Kai, he will find that both countries have the same plans, i.e. the same number of NPP to be constructed by 2020 in each country.

However, he emphasized there is one difference: in Russia "the share of nuclear power is significantly higher than in Chine".

Note, in the end of 1997 Russia and Chine signed the contract for construction of the first and second units of Tianwan NPP with VVER-1000 type reactors with total power 2000 MW Russia and Chine signed. In 1998 Russian company Atomstroiexport began to build these units. In July 2007 the first unit was put into operation.

At present the second unit is plans put into operation. Earlier there has been informed that the parties were planning to prepare construction schedule for construction of the 3rd and 4th units of Tianwan NPP.
