Yuriy Chernichuk commented on reports about the possible transfer of Ukrainian nuclear power plants to the control of the United States

Director of the Zaporozhye NPP Yuri Chernichuk in an interview with TASS commented on reports about the possible transfer of Ukrainian nuclear power plants under the control of the United States.

"What does management mean? Financial flows, personnel policy, and investment policy can be managed. Technically, the plants will be managed by personnel who are trained in this," Chernichuk said.

"No one has enough trained and qualified personnel to manage Ukrainian plants at the moment. People who ensure the safety and operation of the units are a piece of goods in all countries."

"In America, there are also a limited number of specialists trained to manage nuclear power plants. Just like in our country, as well as in Ukraine. Therefore... the transfer mentioned in these statements is purely for management," Chernichuk believes.

However, he added, it is possible to train staff in a relatively short period of time to work at a station in another country.

"Our specialist, who knows how to operate our reactor, can be trained in a relatively short period of time so that he can come and operate the same unit of the American plant. And an American specialist, most likely, can also be trained if the language barrier is eliminated," the director of Zaporozhye NPP believes.
