EDF Energy to Close Four UK Nuclear Reactors RIA Novosti, PUBLISHED 14.08.2014 EDF Energy, the UK branch of French nuclear energy company EDF, plans to temporarily close four nuclear reactors at two power plants in the north of England, the company said in a statement Monday. The company intends to close reactors at Heysham 1 and its sister station Hartlepool for at least eight weeks. EDF Energy is one of the United Kingdom’s largest energy companies and its largest producer of low-carbon electricity. The company generates around one-fifth of the United Kingdom’s electricity.
