ROSATOM repeated is preparedness to cooperate with Slovak partners

ROSATOM repeated its preparedness to cooperate with Slovak side on new nuclear power plant construction at SES 2013 Conference in Bratislava, September 26, 2013.

“We are interested in the Slovak market – a market where our technologies have proved their safety and reliability. Currently we jointly estimate together with our Slovak partners the possibility of ROSATOM participation in the project of new nuclear energy source construction in Slovakia as a potential partner,” Kirill Komarov, Deputy Director General of the ROSATOM Corporation said on the SES 2013 conference.

As he mentioned in Slovakia 4 units constructed based on Russian nuclear technologies produce more than half of the Slovak electricity. „We have a common successful history in the nuclear industry. And now, we are working on the common future in this field. We would like to include the Slovak companies into our future projects worldwide,” stressed Mr. Komarov.

During the speech he also mentioned that ROSATOM is operating globally. Rosatom implements projects to construct 28 NPP units, 19 of them are outside of Russia.

ROSATOM is currently taking part in two tenders: Jordan tender for construction of the first NPP in the country and tender for completion of Temelin NPP in Czech Republic. In Finland ROSATOM closely interacts with Fennovoima Oy, an energy company. Partners are aiming at construction power unit based on Russia technology VVER-1200 at Hanhikivi site. Companies have set a common target - sign a contract for Hanhikivi-1 NPP supply by the end of 2013. In September ROSATOM signed agreement with Rolls-Royce and Fortum companies which aims to jointly explore opportunities for construction and operation of nuclear power plants based on VVER reactor technology in the UK.

”ROSATOM is currently the world leading company in the construction of new nuclear power units. Company utilizes the advantages of continuously and serially NPPs construction, wide research, engineering base and financial solution,” concluded Mr. Komarov.

The second part of the SES 2013 Conference was dedicated to Safe Nuclear Power Plant Operation. Jukka Laaksonen, Vice-President of Rusatom Overseas said that ROSATOM Generation III technology is based on company’s long-term experience, IAEA recommendations and is the evolution of proven technologies Due to that it has the high level of safety and efficient. ”Well before the Fukushima Daiichi accident modern VVER designs encompassed the NPP safety features that were suggested as result of the European wide NPP stress in spring 2012. Safety of modern VVER projects is guaranteed by a balanced combination of active and passive safety systems.,” Mr. Laaksonen said.
