Syria Strike to Entail Serious Consequences – China RIA Novosti, PUBLISHED September 09, 2013 China is convinced that any military action in Syria that is not authorized by the UN Security Council would have “serious consequences,” a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said Wednesday. Qin Gang said on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Strelna, a St.Petersburg suburb, that further steps toward military intervention by the international community would be possible only after a UN team of experts completes its investigation of purported chemical attacks in Syria. “We are convinced that any action should be based on the results of the [UN] investigation and that the decision should be made by the UN Security Council. Any actions bypassing the Security Council will have serious consequences and might lead to a greater humanitarian tragedy,” Qin said. “War is not a solid solution for Syria, only a political approach is possible,” he added.
