Construction of a test facility for hydrogen production begins at Kola NPP AtomInfo.Ru, PUBLISHED 02.09.2026 Construction of a test facility for hydrogen production has started at the industrial site of the Kola Nuclear Power Plant, reports the Rosenergoatom website. Completion of construction is scheduled for next year. The facility is designed to test technologies for large-scale hydrogen production by water electrolysis, as well as for hydrogen handling, storage, and transportation. The design capacity of the test facility is 200 Nm3/h. The project will be implemented in two stages: the first stage - commissioning of an electrolysis unit with a capacity of 50 Nm3/h and the infrastructure for hydrogen storage and handling; the second stage - scaling up to the full design capacity of 200 Nm3/h. The construction of the test facility emphasizes the use of modern Russian-made equipment. The selection of Kola NPP as the pilot site is due to a unique combination of factors: the availability of reserve capacity, affordable electricity costs, developed infrastructure, and the high professionalism of the personnel.
