Welding of Primary Coolant Piping Completed at Akkuyu-2 AtomInfo.Ru, PUBLISHED 27.08.2026 Welding of the primary coolant piping (PCP) has been completed in the reactor building of Unit 2 at the Akkuyu nuclear power plant in Turkey. The welding was completed in 73 days - the time required to carry out welding operations on all 32 pipe joints. The work involved engineering and technical specialists, welders, fitters, pipe cutters, NDT inspectors, heat treatment specialists, and quality control personnel. All stages of the operation were carried out in strict technological sequence. During the welding operations, the welded joints underwent thorough inspection, and only after receiving positive results did specialists proceed to the next stage. All joints underwent high-temperature heat treatment, necessary to relieve internal stresses in the metal and ensure the design operating characteristics. A special surfacing (overlay) was applied to the inner surface of the joints to protect the piping from corrosion. Upon completion of the technological operations, the quality of the welded joints was carefully verified using various inspection methods, including ultrasonic, penetrant (capillary), and radiographic testing.
