AtomInfo.Ru, PUBLISHED 28.05.2025

TVA has submitted an application to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to obtain a construction license for the BWRX-300 small reactor at the Clinch River site.

This is stated in a statement issued by the company on May 20, 2025.

It is known that the company submitted the first batch of application documents, including an environmental report, to the NRC at the end of April 2025. At the same time, regulators said they expected to receive the next batch of documents in a few weeks.

Obviously, the TVA message refers to the submission of the second batch of documents.

The BWRX-300 reactor is a boiling water reactor designed by General Electric. The thermal power of the reactor is 870 MWt, the electrical power of the unit is 300 MWe. In the application, TVA refers to it as a small modular reactor.

The company plans to receive approval of the application in the second quarter of fiscal year 2027. The construction of the BWRX-300 reactor unit is expected to be completed in 2031-2032.

The unit's conditional name is CRN-1 (Clinch River Nuclear-1).
