Transport Lock Has Been Installed at Rooppur NPP Power Unit 1 Communications Division of ROSATOM Engineering Division, PUBLISHED 05.03.2023 Installation of the transport lock has been completed in the Power Unit 1 reactor building at the Rooppur NPP construction site in the People's Republic of Bangladesh (General Designer and General Contractor is Rosatom State Corporation Engineering Division). The transport lock is the largest piece of equipment at the NPP site, while its length is 12.7 meters, its width is 10 meters, and its weight is 235 tons. Through the transport lock, nuclear fuel is loaded and unloaded into the plant, and equipment of class 1&2 is delivered at the stages of NPP construction. After the NPP start-up, fuel simulators will be delivered through the lock, and it will ensure full maintenance of the reactor. "Installation of the transport lock in the design position is an important stage for the completion of civil works in the reactor compartment building," said Alexei Deriy, ASE JSC Vice President - Director of the Rooppur NPP construction project. Further work on the assembly and adjustment of the transport lock will be carried out after the jacketing of the power unit 1 dome. Rooppur NPP equipped with two VVER-1200 reactors of the total 2400 MW capacity is being constructed under the Russian design 160 km from Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, in accordance with the General Contract dated December 25, 2015. The Russian design with VVER-1200 reactors that had been successfully implemented at two units of Novovoronezh NPP was selected for the first NPP in Bangladesh. This is an evolutionary Generation III+ design which fully complies with all the international safety requirements. The ROSATOM Engineering Division unites the leading companies of the nuclear industry, namely: Atomstroyexport JSC (Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, branches in Russia and abroad), Joint Design Institute - Atomenergoproekt JSC (Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, St. Petersburg branches - design institutes, branches in Russia and abroad, R&D branches) and subsidiary construction organizations. The Engineering Division ranks first in the world by the order portfolio and the number of NPPs constructed simultaneously across the world. About 80% of the Division's revenues originate from foreign projects. The Engineering Division implements construction projects for high-power NPPs in Russia and across the world, renders a full range of EPC, EP, EPC(M) services including project management and design activities, and develops Multi-D technologies for the management of complex engineering facilities. The Division relies on the achievements of the Russian nuclear industry and innovative state-of-the-art technologies.
