Communications Division of ROSATOM Engineering Division, PUBLISHED 04.04.2022

The cargo ship with the next batch of the equipment for Rooppur NPP (in the People's Republic of Bangladesh, its General Designer and General Contractor being the Rosatom State Corporation Engineering Division) has left the port of St-Petersburg.

The equipment for NPP units 1 and 2 including 1300 various items is on board. The total amount of the cargo is over 5500 m3, its weight is 1573 tons.

The cargo is expected to be delivered at the NPP site in June.

"Despite the international situation, our division being the general contractor for the Rooppur NPP construction fulfills all its obligations, both for construction and supply of the equipment," said ASE JSC Vice-President, Director for the Rooppur NPP construction project Alexey Deriy.

Rooppur NPP equipped with two VVER-1200 reactors of the total 2400 MW capacity is being constructed under the Russian design160 km from Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, in accordance with General Contract dated December 25, 2015. The Russian design with VVER-1200 reactors was selected for the first NPP in Bangladesh, that was successfully implemented at two units of Novovoronezh NPP. This is an evolutionary Generation III+ design which fully complies with all the international safety requirements.

This critical analysis of the history, state, and prospects of development of modern nuclear technologies shows that nuclear energy market has practically monopolized the design and construction of only one type of reactors (95% of NPPs under construction use pressurized water reactors), which necessitates training of focused specialists involved in the construction and operation of those nuclear power plants.
