Finnish Customers Highly Appreciate HSE Standards at Siberian Chemical Combine

Representatives of Finnish power company Fortum have visited Siberian Chemical Combine (SCC), an enterprise of TVEL Fuel Company of Rosatom in Seversk, Tomsk region.
The visit took place as a part of Fortum's sustainable development program, which also embraces the entire chain of nuclear fuel production and supplies. In this regard, the special attention was paid to health, safety and environment issues.
The Finnish delegation headed by Ulla Rehell, Fortum Vice-President for Sustainable Development, visited the site of isotopes separation, as well as the sublimation and radiochemical plants of the combine. They could observe the key stages of uranium hexafluoride production, which is further used for fabrication of nuclear fuel for both power units of Fortum's Loviisa NPP.
The Finnish partners were also given confirmation on the enterprise products quality compliance with the contracts, international standards and specifications. According to SCC Director General Sergey Tochilin, the environmental conditions within 30-km area around the enterprise and in the city of Tomsk, remains at the natural background level which is typical for West Siberia and Tomsk region. In 2018, there were no accidents at the enterprise. Within 2017-2018, SCC funded 3.6 billion rubles for environmental protection.
The Finnish delegates welcomed the openness of the hosting side and comprehensive approach to the presentations. They highly appreciated efficiency of the measures taken by SCC to ensure high HSE standards at the enterprise.
Both units at Loviisa NPP powered by VVER-440 reactors have been running on Russian-made nuclear fuel since their commissioning. The new modification of VVER-440 fuel with improved water-uranium ratio is being introduced at Loviisa NPP as an engineering project under the contract between Fortum Power and Heat oy and TVEL JSC.
Another 54 units have the status of the being built one.
