Negotiations on the fate of the Ginna nuclear power plant can not succeed AtomInfo.Ru, PUBLISHED 25.01.2015 The Rochester Gas & Electric takes a position in negotiations with the owners of the Ginna NPP that could lead to the closure of the station. The Robert E. Ginna NPP consists of one unit with a PWR reactor, commissioned in 1970. The design power of the unit is equal to 470 MWe, the actual one is equal to 580 MWe, the reactor is a two-loop project from Westinghouse. In 2014 the Ginna NPP ended a 10-year contract for the sale of electricity at a fixed rate of $44 per MW×h to the Rochester Gas & Electric, and even this rate was not enough for the plant's break-even operation. The Negotiations on a new contract are now holding. The first deadline - 15 January 2015- for completion of negotiations has passed, a new term called on 6 February. As it became known to the local press, the Rochester Gas & Electric is considering the option of upgrading its energy infrastructure that will allow it to increase imports of electricity from other sources. In this case the Ginna NPP is likely to be closed.
