Iran, P5+1 Still Have Enough Time to Reach Agreement: US Department of State

There is still enough time for the international mediators and Iran to reach an agreement on the Iranian nuclear program within the previously set time limits, the US State department said on Friday.

"We believe there is sufficient time, in the time that remains, adequate, sufficient, enough time to work through the issues we have, to arrive at a comprehensive agreement by November 24. It's in everyone's interests," a spokeswoman for the US State Department, Marie Harf told reporters during a briefing.

Earlier on Friday, Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that the talks between his country and the P5+1 group may be extended if the sides fail to reach an agreement in time.

The West has accused Tehran of developing nuclear weapons under the guise of a civilian nuclear program — claims repeatedly denied by the Iranian authorities. At a meeting held in November 2013 in Geneva, Iran and the P5+1 group agreed to reach a long-term nuclear agreement by July 2014. The deadline was later postponed to November 2014.

The latest round of negotiations took place on September 24, when the group of international mediators met with the Iranian delegation in New York to discuss the Islamic Republic nuclear program, although they failed to reach an agreement with Tehran on any of the key issues.
