Expert Committee of Bulgarian Ministry of Economy and Energy confirmed using fresh fuel in Kozloduy NPP

TVEL OJSC Public Relations Directorate, PUBLISHED April 06, 2011

Independent Expert Committee in its recently published scientific expert analysis (available at http://www.mee.government.bg/doc_vop/rep.pdf) confirmed that fuel supplied by JSC TVEL to NPP Kozloduy is fabricated fully through the enrichment of natural uranium and is in strict compliance with the technical features agreed between the Russian and the Bulgarian side.

The production of nuclear fuel by TVEL in general is subject to certification in accordance with the most stringent international standards in the field.

Experts from Kozloduy NPP always have the opportunity to carry out quality control inspections during the process of the fabrication of the fuel. The fuel itself also undergoes an input control procedure before being loaded into the reactor.

Representatives of JSC TVEL have expressed satisfaction with the recent confirmation of this fact and confirmed that they will continue to focus on providing high quality fuel and services to Bulgarian energy sector and to NPP Kozloduy.

TVEL, a Rosatom fuel company, is a member of a vertically integrated structure of Russian nuclear industry. TVEL FC combines production and research assets for fuel fabrication, separation and sublimation complex, as well as companies manufacturing gas centrifuges and related equipment. TVEL Fuel Company was set up to achieve the best structure needed to manage companies involved in the nuclear fuel cycle and enhance their performance and competitiveness in the global market.
