TVEL Corporation starts a program of production diversification

TVEL Corporation held a scientific and practical seminar “Materials and technologies of laser and centrifugal uranium isotopes separation”. Representatives of TVEL Corporation, JSC “Techsnabexport” and leading scientific centers of the country RSC “Kurchatovsky Institute”, FSUE CRI “Grafit” took part in the event.

During the seminar the participants got acquainted with the present technological capabilities and plans of TVEL Corporation regarding TVEL enterprises’ production upgrade. The participants discussed, in particular, the main aspects of the Complex Development Program “Growth of Volumes and Reduction of Costs – New Image of Enterprises up to 2020”. It was stressed that its basic components were the reduction of costs, increase of volumes of products sales, optimization of production space and number of employees. But the main priority of the Corporation remains preservation and development of human potential.

TVEL First Vice-president Vladimir Rozhdestvensky is sure: ”To be a successful competitor in the World market we have to develop modern, high-tech and safe production. The programme “New Image of TVEL Corporation” envisages diversification, increase of share of non-nuclear products”.

According to 2007 results non-nuclear sales amounted to 4,8 billion rubles, and by 2015 it is to be increased up to 15,8 billion rubles. The most important condition of growth is the active implementation of scientific developments.

According to TVEL Executive Director for management of non-nuclear projects Andrey Rozhdestvin, in 2008 within the frames of the Corporation 15 innovation projects oriented for creation of new, state-of-the-art enterprises that would result in new working places. The investments into non-nuclear products in the period of 2008 – 2020 will amount to 8,4 billion rubles. The most perspective trends are: titanium pipe rolling, new technology of metallic calcium production by way of aluminothermic process, production of hafnium compounds for microelectronics, development of commercial lithium production and superconductors”.

TVEL Corporation is paying serious attention to participation in Russian Gas Centrifuge project. Within the frames of this project TVEL enterprises are interested in cooperation with scientific centers of the industry for work in preparation to line production of aluminum alloy for centrifuges, magnets, carbon thread.

TVEL management is sure that without mutual integration, close cooperation of production and advanced science it is impossible to make an innovation break through, to increase products sales volumes and labor productivity significantly, to improve competitiveness and to strengthen positions in the World market.
