Unit 1 of Kursk NPP-2 shut down for scheduled short-term maintenance

Unit 1 of the Kursk NPP-2 was shut down on June 1, 2026, for scheduled short-term maintenance, according to the Rosenergoatom website.

Since its first synchronization with Russia's power grid in December 2025, the new unit has demonstrated stable and efficient operation, generating about 2.4 billion kWh of electricity during this period.

More than 500 specialists from Kursk NPP and contractor organizations will take part in the maintenance work. They will carry out diagnostics and maintenance of the main and auxiliary equipment in the reactor and turbine sections, as well as cleaning of heat exchange equipment to ensure stable operation.

After all comprehensive inspections, the VVER-TOI power unit will be reconnected to the grid.
