New robots debut in nuclear power construction

CNNC, PUBLISHED 01.06.2026

On May 13, China Nuclear Industry Huaxing Construction Company, a subsidiary of China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), officially launched two self-developed robots at the second phase project of the Ningde Nuclear Power Plant in Fujian province: an intelligent concrete surface grinding robot and a paint putty application robot.

As the first-of-their-kind equipment introduced in the finishing and decoration sector of China's nuclear power construction and engineering industry, their deployment marks another step toward smarter nuclear construction.

With just a tap on a mobile app, the robots can operate fully automatically.

After multiple on-site tests, both robots have demonstrated strong performance in construction efficiency and operational quality.

The grinding robot achieves 100% recognition of embedded parts and openings on concrete surfaces, with obstacle avoidance accuracy reaching 1 centimeter. Its grinding efficiency matches that of two to three skilled workers, while effectively collecting most dust generated during operation.

Both robots have passed adhesion tests, meeting the 1.5 MPa acceptance standard.

Featuring modular designs, digital control systems, and high-precision visual technologies, they can flexibly operate in complex nuclear plant environments while ensuring stable construction quality and safer operations.

In recent years, the company has continued advancing intelligent construction technologies, rolling out a range of smart equipment including automated welding systems and intelligent rebar workshops.

The launch of these two robots marks another milestone in the company's broader push toward intelligent nuclear power construction, and more types of robots are expected to be developed and applied.
