Beijing hosts IAEA International Conference on Fast Reactors and Related Fuel Cycles CNNC, PUBLISHED 01.06.2026 From May 18 to 21, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Conference on Fast Reactors and Related Fuel Cycles was held in Beijing, themed "From Innovation to Implementation." CONTINUED BELOW (c) CNNC ![]() Organized by the China Institute of Atomic Energy (CIAE), a subsidiary of China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), the event brought together experts to discuss advancements and challenges in fast reactors. During the four-day conference, nine experts from China and abroad delivered keynote speeches on the latest developments, challenges and technological progress in major fast reactor countries. In thematic sessions, 11 experts engaged on strategies for deploying fast neutron reactors and fuel cycle facilities, as well as accelerating fast reactor innovation and deployment through technology transfer. The conference also featured 47 parallel forums, where 217 scholars exchanged views on key areas such as sodium-cooled fast reactor design, sustainability strategies, safety assessment, radiation protection, core thermal hydraulics, and nuclear data analysis. A special poster exhibition showcased technological pathways, equipment manufacturing capabilities, and industrial chain achievements in the fast reactor and fuel cycle sectors by CIAE and other organizations from China and abroad. The conference served as a crucial platform for global cooperation, bridging innovation and practical implementation in fast reactor technologies. It advanced the safe, efficient, and sustainable development of nuclear energy, supporting global energy transition and climate change response efforts.
