Industry CNOs support each other in driving sustained excellence worldwide

WANO hosted the annual Global Chief Nuclear Officers' (CNO) Forum in Budapest, Hungary from Monday 20 to Tuesday 21 October 2025.

The theme of the Global CNO Forum was: Influencing Industry Sustainability via CNO Strategic Planning and Mutual Support.

It was a unique opportunity for CNOs to share challenges, discuss solutions and exchange information and best practices with their international counterparts to drive performance.

The Forum also provided an opportunity for CNOs globally to come together to network and build relationships with their peers, and discuss the progress of the industry in meeting its ongoing journey to achieve elevated levels of sustainable performance.

Dr Naoki Chigusa, the Chief Executive Officer at WANO, commented:

"At the Forum, CNOs agreed the next steps members will take with WANO's support to accelerate progress towards operational excellence.

The journey towards excellence is never ending and, as an industry, we are committed to continuous improvement.

With a great spirit of cooperation to maximise safety and reliability, our members are shaping a positive future by generating low carbon energy for communities worldwide."

A variety of speakers from members worldwide presented on the following topics: the latest trends driving industry performance, how members are benefiting from enhanced Performance Monitoring, the value of members sending talented employees on WANO secondments, how organisational effectiveness drives continuous improvement, and strategic planning for CNOs to drive the industry forwards.

Also to be held at the same location in Budapest on Thursday 23 October will be the Global Young Generation (YG) Forum 2025, which provides a unique opportunity for members of WANO's YG community to come together to network, share ideas, and learn together.

The Forum will feature a range of interactive sessions that aligned to WANO's values of Teamwork, Integrity, and Innovation.
