Rosatom Engineering Division presents the SNPP design for Russia and foreign countries

Communications Division of Engineering Division of State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom, PUBLISHED 06.10.2025

As part of the business program of the World Atomic Week international forum, held on September 25 - 28, 2025 in Moscow, the Engineering Division of State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom has presented a design of small nuclear power plant (SNPP), its technical solutions and safety system features.

Speaking at the session "Small energy solutions for a big future", Sergey Generalov, Atomstroyexport JSC Director for Yakutia Small NPP Construction Project, pointed out that it is hard to overestimate the opportunities given by the SNPP to regions.

"Remote areas with severe climatic conditions and geographically isolated territories get a big boost for the development of social, industrial and economic fields. Modern nuclear technologies imply for guaranteed maintenance of SNPP operation for decades", he said.

Pavel Bezrukov, Atomstroyexport JSC Vice President- Director of NPP Construction Project in the Republic of Uzbekistan, noted: "Speaking of the Russian SNPP design, we understand it is not just a design, but a proven efficient technical solution. Reactor plant RITM-200 has been operating successfully at nuclear ice-breakers for many years. The reactor improved for "onshore" requirements was the basis for future SNPP power units. Certainly, every design implies adaptation for a particular site, taking into account all of its potential characteristics: seismic, climatic, environmental specifics, availability of water resources and many other parameters. By the end of this year, our design institutes will have completed the development of SNPP design in Uzbekistan and we will proceed to the main stage of its implementation already in 2026".

During the forum, everyone can also become familiar with the basic Russian design of SNPP in the virtual reality format.

The design by engineers from Atomstroyexport JSC and Atomenergoproekt JSC (belonging to the Rosatom Engineering Division) demonstrates the main process solutions for the SNPP, safety system features and unique layout solutions.

It also models the development of regions with the highest demand for power nowadays; however, these projects are difficult for implementation due to remoteness of areas, undeveloped power system and severe climatic conditions.

Besides, as part of the World Atomic Week, the Division's experts traditionally present the large NPP design: VVER-1200 is a flagship NPP design of safety generation III+, being currently implemented in China, Hungary, Bangladesh, Turkey, Egypt and Kazakhstan. A special attention in the overseas NPP construction is given to interaction with foreign partners and establishment of consortiums, supplementing each NPP project.

As noted by Aleksandr Merten, Atomstroyexport JSC Senior Vice President for International Business Development, today Rosatom is a globally recognized leader in NPP export, while the Engineering Division is the one implementing these projects.

"We offer our partners as flexible and transparent work schemes as possible, which provide for a wide involvement of local industries, guaranteed fuel supply, service throughout the entire life cycle and staff training. All of this, along with the highest safety standards and competitive price offer, ensures our leading positions on the international market", ASE JSC Senior Vice President said.

Apart from the business program, visitors of the forum were traditionally invited on a gastronomic tour. Atomstroyexport arranged a special zone "Nuclear States' Cuisine" and offered the guests to get acquainted with culinary traditions of its partner countries. This year, dishes of Russian, Indian, Uzbek, Turkish, Iranian, Egyptian, Chinese and Bangladeshi cuisine were selected from all the variety.

The World Atomic Week international forum (WAW - 2025), timed to the 80th anniversary of the Russian nuclear industry, is held on September 25 - 28, 2025 in Moscow, at the Exhibition of Economic Achievements (VDNKh). The forum organized by State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom hosts the exhibition of achievements of the Russian nuclear industry and its partners. The business program includes the following thematic tracks: "Clean energy for a green planet", "Industrial innovation: reimagining the production", "Ecology: let's make the planet greener", "Advanced medicine: protecting human health", "Digital breakthrough", "Mobility: logistics without borders", "Comfortable urban environment", "Science and education: a driving force of progress". The youth program (September 27-28) includes a scientific and educational marathon "Knowledge. The First" by the all-Russian society Znaniye, organized as part of the 'Youth and Children" national project. The forum will also host the II Youth Festival "Composites Without Borders".

Russia is actively developing cooperation with all the interested countries. The implementation of major international projects is underway. Rosatom and its divisions are taking an active part in this work.
