A BWR-5 boiling water reactor is installed on the unit. Thus, the unit became the second unit with a boiling water reactor to return to service in Japan. Earlier this year, the Onagawa-2 unit returned to operation. The electric capacity of the Shimane-2 unit is 820 MWe gross, or 789 MWe net.
