AtomInfo.Ru, PUBLISHED 21.09.2024

China will open 12 research centers and facilities of the nuclear industry to foreign specialists and scientific organizations in order to expand global cooperation.

These include the CARR research reactor. It should be noted that in 2023 the AtomInfo.Ru reported on China's plans to open this reactor to projects by foreign specialists and organizations, and more than 40 applications had already been submitted.

Among other facilities being opened for international cooperation, the Xinhua news agency names the Huanliu-3 tokamak and the Beishan underground research laboratory.

By opening the facilities, the Chinese side intends to develop international cooperation in such areas as fundamental nuclear research, isotope production, equipment testing, radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel management.

This was stated by Liu Jing, Deputy Chairman of the Atomic Energy Administration of China (CAEA), during his participation in the session of the IAEA General Conference.

Liu Jing spoke at an event organized by CAEA called "Share for Development". The purpose of the event was to promote international cooperation in the field of research and development in the field of nuclear technologies.

The event was also timed to coincide with the 40th anniversary of China's accession to the IAEA.

Yu Jianfeng, Chairman of CNNC Corporation, was also among the speakers at the event.

He confirmed that the corporation is committed to deepening cooperation with the IAEA and expanding international cooperation, and expressed hope that the opening of nuclear facilities will contribute to the development of nuclear technologies worldwide.

Mikhail Chudakov, Deputy Director General of the IAEA, praised China's outstanding achievements in the development of nuclear energy and stressed the long-standing and fruitful relations between the IAEA and CAEA.

Welcoming China's decision, Mikhail Chudakov said that this step would further strengthen the IAEA's technical capacity to support its member states.
