Akkuyu NPP project employees collect help for earthquake victims

Companies involved in Akkuyu NPP construction collected warm clothes and primary commodities for those hurt or displaced by the earthquake.

Collection points are located in Silifke, Kum Mahallesi and Tasucu, where most of the Akkuyu NPP site employees live.

Project personnel and residents of the region bring outerwear, shoes, blankets, heaters, sleeping bags and other necessities. By the evening of February 7, at least 4 tons of humanitarian aid have been collected, all items were transferred to Silifke municipality. Collection will continue until February 10 inclusive.

Contractors involved in the Akkuyu NPP construction project sent more than 200 people and about 80 pieces of equipment including cranes, tractors, excavators, dump trucks to clear the debris after the earthquake.

More than 60 buses were sent to the Adana airport to transfer doctors arriving by air to the victims.

In addition to the existing blood donation points, camps have been deployed at the Red Crescent branch in Silifke and in the workers' camp in Buyukeceli.

Funds are being collected to help the victims at the Akkuyu NPP construction site, as well as AKKUYU NUCLEAR offices in Ankara and Moscow. Money can be transferred to bank accounts indicated by the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority of the Republic of Turkiye (AFAD).

"It is impossible to remain indifferent to such a disaster, and we are grateful to our colleagues and all employees of our construction site for their participation. In conditions when every second counts, forces and resources are mobilized instantly. Of course, we will not limit ourselves to the measures taken and will provide the victims with all possible support as long as it is necessary. We mourn together with the people of Turkiye, express our deep condolences to the families of the victims, wish a speedy recovery to the injured and, of course, hope that everyone remaining under the debris will be saved", noted AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC CEO Anastasia Zoteeva.
