Question of choosing between Belene and Kozloduy is incorrect - Yanko Yanev AtomInfo.Ru, PUBLISHED 21.02.2022 The question of where in Bulgaria it is better to build nuclear units (at Belen or Kozloduy) is incorrect, says Professor Yanko Yanev, quoted by AtomInfo.Bg. In his opinion, such a wording "is sponsored by the idea of abandoning nuclear energy." For 40 years, Bulgarian and foreign organizations have studied the Belene site. All the necessary information on the site has been provided to the European Union, and Bulgaria is ready to start the actual construction of this plant, Yanev recalled. "Another need is that the Kozloduy NPP should think about new units in connection with the expiration of the service life of the existing units," said a Bulgarian professor who heads the Nuclear Knowledge Management Institute (Vienna). According to him, the mantra that the Bulgarian energy industry is connected with Russia is "nonsense", there is a "primitive political conversation". "America is a great nuclear power, I respect them deeply, but over the past 30 years they have not built anything and even reached a dead end with large units. The export of large nuclear units is in question - maybe, or maybe not ... Don't worry if the technology is Russian," Yanev said.
