CAREM25 construction

This is stated in an article published in the Buenos Aires Times newspaper on 13 November 2019.

The consortium announced also the "temporary suspension" of 270 workers for a period of three weeks.

The consortium blames the national atomic energy commission (CNEA) of Argentina for the delay of payments. The commission does not respond to the offer of the consortium about the adjustment of work cost.

Another reason is the delays in preparing the documentation for the project and "constant changes" by the CNEA.

The temporary reduction will affect not only the Techint workers. The newspaper reports that it is expected to suspend up to 500 people.

The construction of the CAREM25 small reactor started in Argentina in February 2014 and was constantly faced with delays.

For each nation or region, the scope and depth of governmental supervision on export controls over organisations should be proportionate to what type of organisation it is, its track record, and the risk to proliferation it poses.
