On July 14, 2016 in Obninsk, on Triangular Square the monument in honor of the pioneers in nuclear energy was unveiled, the press service of the SSC RF - IPPE reported.

The opening ceremony was attended by representatives of the State Corporation "Rosatom", the Administration of Kaluga Region and the city of Obninsk, the senior management of the SSC RF - IPPE named after A.I. Leypunsky.

The monument to the pioneers of nuclear energy in the first Russian science city was erected not without reason: the establishment of the Institute for Physics and Power Engineering and commissioning of the World's First Nuclear Power Plant are associated with the names of the outstanding scientists and leaders, industry pioneers: E.P. Slavsky, I.V. Kurchatov, A.I. Leypunsky , N.A. Dollezhal, A.P. Aleksandrov and many others.

Today's nuclear scientists rightly consider themselves followers of the traditions of the pioneers in the atomic era, who created the nuclear industry under complicated conditions.

At the monument unveiling ceremony, Sergey Kirienko, Director General of the State Corporation "Rosatom" noted: "The city of Obninsk has a great history and no less great future. Standing at this monument, I want to once again thank the veterans - the people who created the Institute for Physics and Power Engineering named after A.I. Leypunsky, the unique international center, which has no analogues in the world. "

"And it is not only the past and the present; it is the future of the people who laid the foundation of overriding decisions in applied science, people who now promote state-of-the-art development of medicine and new technologies, not only in the nuclear industry, but also in the related sectors."

According to Gennady Sklyar, Chairman of the RPO "Kaluga Fraternity" Management Board, the strategies of Rosatom and Obninsk are in agreement: "The future of Obninsk is inseparable from our main partner - the State Corporation "Rosatom ". Besides, Obninsk, as an open area site, can become a partner and an example for our colleagues in the "nuclear" cities in the Urals and Siberia - we have always been friends, and I hope that in the course of our future cooperation we will create joint projects, and the strategies of Rosatom and Obninsk will assist us in this matter. "

Vladislav Shapsha, the Head of Obninsk Administration, said: "The relations of the city and the State Corporation "Rosatom" have always been friendly, warm and partnership-based. The joint development prospects always include an educational component, as well as a medical component at the interface of atomic energy use; this is the future, which is in demand not only in Obninsk, but also around the country. I hope that the joint efforts of the city and the State Corporation "Rosatom" will allow this future to be implemented in a short time".

The authors of this monument are the sculptors Alexey Dubin and Vladimir Saprykin from Zelenograd. The basic concept of the monument is a bronze figure that symbolizes a person as a creator holding a split atom. This is a scientist who harnessed an immense power of nuclear energy, who managed to see the birth of a new world of matter particles interaction and paved the way for the development of nuclear energy use.

According to the sculptors' general idea, the pioneer is standing against the background of a large sphere surrounded by electron orbits. The height of the pedestal is 0.8 meters; the human figure height is 2.2 meters.

It has simple and well-considered control. Do you need to connect a gas system? Welcome, one click of the PC mouse is enough to preset the pressure. Is the beam cut off? Five seconds and the doors are unlocked. Actually, no problems are expected.

The reactor facility BN-350 is the first facility with the fast neutron reactor. Experience of its designing, building, installing and exploitation has helped to realize and solve many problems with NPPs of a fast sodium type.
