AtomInfo.Ru, PUBLISHED 30.12.2014

India will put in the coming days under IAEA safeguards two unit of Narora nuclear power plant with the heavy water reactors, the PTI said, citing sources in the government.

Thus, the number of Indian nuclear facilities, standing under the guarantees will reach 22. Under the guarantees will be 10 of 18 existing Indian heavy water reactors, namely, all the units on the Rajasthan, Kakrapar and Narora plants.

Outside of safeguards will stay Kaiga NPP, Madras NPP and two units with PHWR-540 at Tarapur.

In addition, under the guarantees are units No. 1-2 Tarapur NPP with the BWR reactors, units No. 1-2 Koodankulam NPP and eight NFC objects in Tarapur and Hyderabad.

The reactors, standing under IAEA safeguards, can use the imported uranium for their work, which is important for India, as domestic production of uranium in this country is not enough to support existing nuclear units.
