Iranian Negotiators in Vienna to Meet US Senior Officials Tuesday: Iran Nuclear Energy

RIA Novosti, PUBLISHED 14.10.2014

Iranian negotiators have arrived in the Austrian capital of Vienna for nuclear talks with the European Union and the United States, Iranian Nuclear Energy tweeted Tuesday, adding that the Iranian delegation will meet US Deputy Secretary of State William Burns and Under Secretary for Political Affairs Wendy Sherman.

"Iran nuclear negotiating team arrives in Vienna, DepFMs [Iran' deputy foreign minister Abbas] Araghchi & [Iran' deputy foreign minister Masjid Takht ] Ravanchi to meet US no.2 diplomat Burns & negotiator Sherman Tuesday," Iran Nuclear Energy tweeted Tuesday morning.

Talks over the Iranian nuclear program are about to resume later on Tuesday, with negotiators from Iran, the European Union and the United States meeting in Vienna this week.

The sides are expected to narrow the differences over the final agreement that is to be struck by November 24, as envisaged by the Joint Plan of Action (JPA) signed last November in Geneva.

"Clearly, details of a final nuclear deal are still being discussed," Iranian President Hassan Rouhani tweeted late Monday. "A deal based on mutual respect & understanding will benefit all."

This week's round of talks in Vienna is expected to focus on two biggest areas of contention - Iran's uranium enrichment and the lifting of US, EU and UN sanctions against the Islamic Republic.

Joint Plan of Action
The goal for these negotiations is to reach a mutually-agreed long-term comprehensive solution that would ensure Iran's nuclear programme will be exclusively peaceful. Iran reaffirms that under no circumstances will Iran ever seek or develop any nuclear weapons.
