Vice-president of Rusatom Overseas Jukka Laaksonen gave a report on global expansion of VVER technology

OKB Gidropress (Podolsk, Moscow region) is holding the 8th International Scientific and Technical Conference "Safety Assurance of nuclear power plants with VVER" on May 28-31, 2013. The conference is attended by both Russian and foreign experts from research institutes, design organizations, engineering plants, and nuclear power plants.

At the Conference Vice-president of Rusatom Overseas Jukka Laaksonen gave a presentation on the expansion of VVER projects outside of Russia. Laaksonen emphasized that globalization is one of the priority areas for Rosatom today. One of the company’s key targets is to generate more than 50% of revenue from global operations by 2020. The speaker noted that in order to achieve these goals it is necessary to better consolidate the cooperation of the entities inside the Rosatom Corporation in preparation of the export projects, with a common target to provide potential customers accurate information on the advanced features of the Russian nuclear technology and on the successful implementation of latest nuclear power plant projects both in Russia and abroad.

"I believe that high quality of manufactured equipment and nuclear fuel, modern safety technologies, integrated approach to foreign customers, as well as high competence and great experience of Russian design organizations and experts will help the company to achieve its goals", noted Laaksonen.

Moreover, the speaker outlined the challenges that lie ahead. First of all, according to Laaksonen, it is necessary to significantly enhance the information available to foreign partners and potential customers about the technical features of modern VVER reactors, as well as about new developments and innovations of Rosatom.
