Belarus NPP: the construction is ahead of schedule

Public Relations and Information Policy Department of united company NIAEP-Atomstroyexport, PUBLISHED March 14, 2013

On the 11th of March 2013 a meeting of the construction control panel for Belarus NPP was held. The meeting was chaired by Alexander Ozerets, the Minister of Energy of the Republic of Belarus.

The meeting participants included representatives of the Government of the Republic of Belarus, MD Directorate for Construction of Nuclear Power Plant (construction customer), united company NIAEP-Atomstroyexport (plant architect general and principal contractor), Belarus contractors, and Administration of Grodno Region.

The meeting participants made a tour of the construction site and discussed the construction progress of the construction base facilities and NPP. A special attention was paid to the 2013 target plan. Alexander Ozerets emphasized, the 2013 work schedule is very tight, because the Government has set the task to do three times more work volume than last year.

According to Yuri Pustovoy, the Director of Belarus NPP Construction at NIAEP, in September 2013 it is necessary to complete work on all 62 facilities of the construction support base and off-site grids and utilities, which support operations of the construction base. He named the priority facilities as follows: off-site pipelines and engineering utilities related to the household and drinking water and firewater supply; special metalwork and reinforcement bar building with an unheated warehouse; water treatment facilities, specifically, off-site pipelines and facilities related to household and process sewerage and storm water drains. Commissioning works at these facilities are planned to start in April.

The meeting also discussed issues of purchasing and supply of the equipment for the construction support base and main facilities to be built.

To remind: on the 1st of February 2013 the excavation of foundation pit for Unit 2 was started. At present, the work is carried out in parallel at two power units.

President of NIAEP, which is the management company of Atomstroyexport, Valery Limarenko summed up the meeting: "Today we have discussed targets, which require prompt decisions. On the whole, the NPP construction proceeds very dynamically and several months ahead of schedule."

Not quite so. The authors of the concept, which was difficult to be realized in practice, turned to a clearer concept of a standing wave reactor (TP-1) that in principle allows finding the solution to the tasks stated for TWRs.
