More than 4,000 people from 53 countries visited ATOMEXPO 2012 International Forum

Organized by the State Atomic Energy Corporation ROSATOM, ATOMEXPO 2012 International Forum completed its work in Gostiny Dvor (Moscow) on June 6, 2012.

The event brought together over 4,000 participants from 53 countries, more than 225 speakers made presentations and reports on the most topical issues of the nuclear energy. The main theme of the Forum was «Nuclear Power Industry Worldwide: One Year after Fukushima». Compared to last year the number of representatives from new countries developing nuclear energy has doubled. Together with their colleagues from Russia, France, Germany, USA, Japan, and other countries they discussed the prospects for international cooperation in the global nuclear market.

During the Congress the participants discussed the results of the last year, possible solutions for the nuclear legacy issues, new features of the Northern Sea Route, trends of nuclear fuel market, and many other issues. During the round table discussion on an integrated approach to the development of the global nuclear industry, representatives of companies and ministries from such countries as France, the Czech Republic, Turkey, South Africa and others discussed the benefits of a comprehensive proposal of the State Atomic Energy Corporation ROSATOM for the global nuclear energy market.

The Plenary session took place on June 5. It had live broadcast on RUSSIA 24 TV channel, and its moderator was famous Russian anchorman Sergey Brilev. The participants of the Plenary session were: Elizabeth Dipuo Peters, Minister of Energy of the Republic of South Africa, Alexander Ozerets, Minister of Energy of Belarus, Alexander Lokshin, First Deputy Director General of Rosatom, Metin Kilci, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey, Ian Telfer, Non-Executive Independent Chairman of the Board of Uranium One, Lawrie Haynes, President of Rolls-Royce Nuclear, Ruben Lazo, Chief Commercial Officer of AREVA, Takuya Hattori, President of Japan Atomic Industry Forum, Matti Ruotsala, Executive Vice-President of Fortum, Leonid Bolshov, president of the International Forum ATOMEXPO, Director of IBRAE RAN.

Representatives of Russian and foreign companies and ministries signed several bilateral agreements and memoranda of understanding during the Forum. On June 4, the Governments of the Russian Federation and the Federal Republic of Nigeria signed an agreement on the cooperation in the design, construction, operation, and decommissioning of nuclear power plants in Nigeria. It was the first agreement to build nuclear power plants made between ROSATOM and African country. On the same day, Director General of ROSATOM Sergey Kirienko and State Minister for Information and Communication Technology of the Republic of Bangladesh Yafes Osman signed a memorandum of creation of the first information center of nuclear energy in this country and of the training of personnel for the nuclear industry. Also the signings were held between Russian and representatives from such countries as the USA, Mongolia, Australia, and others.

The exhibition featured the expositions of leading companies and organizations of the world nuclear market, such as ROSATOM State Atomic Energy Corporation, TVEL, Concern Rosenergoatom, Atomenergomash, E4 Group, Kazatomprom, EdF, CEA (France), KSB, Siemens (Germany), CNNC (China), Rolls-Royce (UK) and others. The total area of the Forum has doubled this year.

For the first time the Forum mobile guide was launched, as an application for smart phones and PC tablets based on Apple iOS and Google Android, as well as information booths where one could find detailed information about the Forum, the program, and exhibitors.

The work of the Forum was covered by about 400 representatives of mass media, including press and TV representatives from such countries as India, China, Vietnam, South Africa, Japan, Iran, Turkey, Bulgaria, Hungary, UK, Ukraine, Belarus, Poland, and others.

Not quite so. The authors of the concept, which was difficult to be realized in practice, turned to a clearer concept of a standing wave reactor (TP-1) that in principle allows finding the solution to the tasks stated for TWRs.
