IAEA report proves peaceful nature of Teheran nuclear activities RIA Novosti, PUBLISHED November 25, 2010 A report released on Tuesday by the International Atomic Energy Agency proves the peaceful nature of Teheran's nuclear activities, the IRNA news agency cited the country's permanent representative to the IAEA as saying. "According to this report, all Iran's nuclear activities, including enrichment, were carried out under the IAEA's inspections," IAEA representative Ali Asghar Soltanieh said. U.S. State Department Spokesman Mark Toner said on Tuesday the report, which details Iran's continued efforts to produce low-enriched uranium, was evidence of Tehran's "continued failure to comply with its international nuclear obligations." Western media reported on Tuesday that Iran's nuclear facility in Natanz had been experiencing technical problems, causing thousands of centrifuges to temporarily shut down. Experts believe the difficulties could have been caused by a state-backed attack aimed at sabotaging the Islamic Republic's enrichment program. "This report shows that certain media reports in the west that alleged enrichment activities in Iran have faced technical problems have been baseless," Soltanieh said. "It [report] also shows that hostile measures by certain espionage and terrorist organizations in a Western country aiming to create problems for Iran have failed and peaceful activities have continued," he added. Western powers suspect Iran of building nuclear weapons under the guise of a peaceful nuclear program, an accusation Tehran strongly denies. The Iran Six, which comprises Russia, the United States, China, Britain, France and Germany, has been trying since 2003 to convince Iran to halt its uranium enrichment program and to alleviate concerns about its nuclear ambitions. Iran's top nuclear official said in October that the Islamic Republic currently possesses 30 kg of 20 percent-enriched uranium and is continuing to increase its nuclear fuel reserves. He also said the country was seeking to reach self-sufficiency in uranium mining in the next seven-eight years.
