Atomstroyexport fulfills its obligations under Belene NPP construction project

"Atomstroyexport" JSC (ASE JSC) is going on to fulfill its contractual obligations under "Belene" NPP construction project. The project is being implemented according to the agreed schedule and within the approved scope. The amendments of the project financial structure have not led at the present moment to revision of its contractual obligations by the company.

Nowadays the provisional treatment facilities at the site of Belene NPP with 400 m3 a day capacity is being commissioned, precommissioning works for the second module with 200m3 a day capacity being carried out, survey works being executed (geological and engineering, topographic and land measuring, water survey). The dismantling of reinforced concrete and metallic constructions is completed; the foundation pit for construction of the first unit is prepared.

Early 2009 Atomstroyexport commissioned the concrete-mixing plant at the construction site, which consists of 2 modules with production capacity of 100 cubic meters of concrete per hour each. The plant will completely provide for the Site needs with regard to the concrete.

The National Energy Company (NEK of Bulgaria) was provided with the preliminary design, the probabilistic safety analysis and the interim safety analysis report. Currently the representatives of the general contractor – "Atomstroyexport" JSC, general design engineer – Moscow institute "Atomenergoproject", general designer – OKB "Gidropress" and scientific project manager - RRC "Kurchatov Institute" are in Bulgaria in order to discuss all issues, comments and offers on documents submitted to the Bulgarian party.

About the project:

2005 the tender for construction of Belene NPP was announced, and the Russian company "Atomstroyexport" JSC succeeded in this tender. On January 18, 2008 in presence of President of Russia Vladimir Putin and President of Bulgaria Georgi Pyrvanov the Contract Agreement for Belene NPP construction was signed between “Atomstroyexport” JSC and National Electric Company of Bulgaria. The design being implemented by Atomstroyexport is characterized by a higher safety level, longer service life of the main equipment, higher ratio of use of the installed capacity.

2007 the Russian design was recognized as meeting all EUR technical requirements for light water reactor NPP of a new generation. The certification of the design demonstrated again the high level of safety and protection of the future nuclear power plant. The official opening of the Belene NPP Site took place on the 3rd of September, 2008.
