Within the joint exposition of the SC Rosatom Atomstroyexport JSC has taken part in the international specialized exhibition Atomexpo Belarus, which is held on March 10 - 13, 2009 in Minsk.
The Atomstroyexport JSC booth is featuring information photo- and video materials dealing with the company's avenues of activity abroad and projects under realization. Maximum attention is given to issues of safety of the Russian nuclear power technologies and ASE projects with third generation WWER reactors.
The Atomstroyexport JSC delegation at the Atomexpo Belarus exhibition was headed by the First Vice-president Alexander Glukhov, which together with the representatives of the SC Rosatom, the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Belarus and the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus participated in the official opening of the exhibition and the press conference organized for the Belorussian mass media.
Answering the journalists' questions on the terms of the construction of the first Belorussian NPP, Alexander Glukhov stated, that proceeding from the stated date of the first unit commissioning in 2016, the first concrete should be poured in 2010. Taking into consideration the preparatory stage the work on the project calls for most dynamic activity, and in this respect the Belorussian party has reached great progress, Alexander Glukhov informed. According to Alexander Anatolyevich judging by the project cost, one can provisionally be guided by the two-unit NPP Belene project, which ASE JSC is currently constructing in Bulgaria. With the complete liability of the customer the basic variant of a turnkey construction is estimated to cost 4 billion euro. It is assumed that both state and private funding may be attracted for the construction of the first NPP in Belorussia.
Pursuant to the Protocol of agreements reached on the basis of the results of the SC Rosatom delegation visit to Belarus in January 2009, Atomstroyexport JSC, which is to realize the NPP construction on a turnkey basis, will act as General Contractor.
It is planned to construct in Belarus an NPP with the commissioning of the first power unit in 2016 and the second one in 2018. The Ostrovets site in the Grodno Region is chosen for the NPP layout.
For the provision of the nuclear power plant erection an Agreement between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Republic of Belarus on cooperation in the field of peaceful use of nuclear power is being prepared.
