On the 24th of August, at 1:00 a.m., Beijing time, the Second Power Unit of Tianwan NPP in China, constructed according to the Russian design under direction of company "Atomstroyexport", generated the first billion kWh electricity.
After take-over for the commercial operation carried out by Jiangsu Nuclear Power Corporation (JNPC) on August, 16th, 2007 the Second Power Unit of TNPP has been stably operating at the rated power level, thus confirming reliability of the Russian technologies. Having stepped over the billion boundary, Unit 2 continues to generate electricity for Jiangsu Province. Its equipment and systems are functioning according to the operation documentation requirements. The supervision over operation of the Unit is carried out by JSC "Atomstroyexport" experts together with the Chinese experts.
Currently activities are performed on preparation of documentation for the Provisional Acceptance of Unit 2. Signing of the Report on Provisional Acceptance of Unit 2 by JSC "Atomstroyexport" and JNPC is expected by the mid of September. From the moment of signing the Report the obligations of JSC "Atomstroyexport" on construction and commissioning of the Second Power Unit will be considered executed, and then time reckoning of the two-year guarantee operation will start.
The First Power Unit, which was handed over by JSC "Atomstroyexport" to the Chinese customer in June 2007, is nearing the boundary of 5 billion kWh of generated electricity.
Tianwan NPP is the largest power plant in China as per the unit installed capacity of the power units. VVER-1000 reactors are characterized, by assessment of experts, by a high degree of reliability, their safety is provided by application of the system of barriers on a path of radioactivity propagation, the passive and active safety systems and approved design solutions.
JSC "Atomstroyexport" - the leading Russian organization realizing the intergovernmental agreements on construction of nuclear power facilities abroad. Presently it is the only company in the world, realizing projects of simultaneous construction of four nuclear power plants outside its country - in China, India, Iran and Bulgaria.
