On July 24 at 13:33, the 1st unit of Kursk NPP was connected to the grid. This unit was shut down due to leakages of technical water coming from the cooling pond.
According to instructions, the tests of equipment have been carried out and the complex of starting-up and setting-up work specified in the Rules for safety operation of NPPs has been fulfilled.
The shut down of the unit had no danger for both Kursk NPP and environment.
At present four units operate at Kursk NPP. Their total power is 3100 MW (e).
There were no violations of safety operation at Kursk NPP.
Radiation background at Kursk NPP and surrounding territories is no higher than normal and doesn't exceed natural radiation background.
