Declaration of intentions to invest construction of Leningrad NPP-2 units was approved

On July 16 the meeting of the Inter-Agency Commission (IAC) for allocation of industrial facilities in Leningrad region was held in St Petersburg. It was devoted to consideration of the Declaration of intention to invest construction Leningrad NPP-2 units.

The deputy head of Rosenergoatom's department for management of investment program Y. Sharov has told about the plans for development of nuclear power in Leningrad region in accordance with the federal target program "Development of nuclear power and industry complex of Russian in 2007-2010 and further till 2020". He emphasized the important role, which nuclear power plays traditionally in Leningrad region (40% of electricity production) and clarified in what consequence the new units of Leningrad NPP-2 will replace the aged existing units of Leningrad NPP-1.

The chief engineer of SPb AEP A. Kazarin told about the main characteristics of the units to be constructed and site and informed how remarks and proposals made during discussion would be taken into account at further pre-design and design stages.

The IAC considered and approved the Declaration.

On 4 March, an intergovernmental agreement on principles of cooperation in the construction of a SMR (small modular reactor) in Myanmar was signed during the state visit of Myanmar leadership to Russia.
