Bilibino NPP: two-year operation without violations

Since July 19, 2005 there is no a violation of operation classified by the International Nuclear Event Scale (INES) at Bilibino NPP.

By opinion of the deputy director general, technical director of Rosenergoatom Nickolay Sorokin, it is connected with the modernization of equipment and systems of Bilibino NPP.

Sorokin noted that the main reason was a serious work on preventing violations and low-significant events (so-called "workshop" events), which are precursors of more serious failures.

During last two years 59 "workshop" violations have been revealed at Bilibino NPP. The heads and specialists of different levels have made 14 716 remarks on technical, nuclear and radiation safety, labour protection and 420 remarks - on fire safety. Organization and technical measures have been developed for all violations revealed and they all have been eliminated.

Nickolay Sorokin told that these facts characterize the high level of safety culture of Bilibino NPP chaired by director Farit Tukhvetov, especially the high level of work of services under control of chief engineer Constantine Ozerov.

First concrete poured at unit 4 at Leningrad NPP-2
On March 20, 2025, the first concrete was poured for the foundation of the reactor building at Unit 4 of Leningrad NPP-2. The construction is part of the capacity replacement program at the plant, a subsidiary of Rosenergoatom, Rosatom Electric Power Division.
Representatives from the Belarusian NPP, El Dabaa NPP (Egypt), and Rooppur NPP (Bangladesh) participated in the first concrete ceremony via videoconference. These countries have power units with reference Russian VVER-1200 reactors that they have constructed or are constructing with the support of Rosatom.
