Kalinin NPP: The general contractor was defined for construction of the 4th unit
According to information department of Kalinin NPP, FGUP "Nizhegorodsky project Atomenergoproject" (NIAEP) won tender to complete construction of the 4th unit of Kalinin NPP and to put it into operation.
On July 3-4 Atomenergoproject general director Valery Limarenko firstly visited Kalinin NPP. He told that the contract between Rosatom and NIAEP for building of the 4th unit of Kalinin NPP will be signed soon.
The construction of the 4th unit of Kalinin NPP began in 1984, but it was suspended and abandoned in 1991 by the order of Ministry of nuclear power and industry. Only 20% of work has been done in that period.
In 2002 the RF minister of nuclear power and industry and governor of Tver region signed the declaration of intention to continue the construction of the 4th unit. On February 16, 2006 decision was made to complete construction of the 4th unit.
During last eight months the final project of increasing Kalinin NPP power up to 4000 MW was approved, technical documentation was issued and financing of work in 2007-2008 was confirmed. The project passed the State ecological expertise.
The 4th unit is expected to put into operation in 2011.
