The 1st unit of Kursk NPP disconnected from the grid

According to Rosatom press-center, on July 4, 2007 the first unit of Kursk NPP was discharged and disconnected from the grid. It has been done in connection with detection of leakages in pipeline with technical water sullying the 1st unit in the area between water intake and reactor department. All taken measures correspond to the regulations.

Shut down of the 1st unit has no danger neither to Kursk NPP itself nor to surrounding territory. There are no violations of restrictions and normal operation conditions. After removing causes, the 1st unit will be put into operation again.

Earlier on July 3, 2007, at 7:32 turbogenerator No4 (TG-4) of the 2nd unit was shut down due to false operation of automatic turbo-generator shut down system. As a result the 2nd unit power was decreased down to 50%.

After checking up the cause, TG-4 was connected to grid and the operation of the 2nd unit was restored according to schedule. There are no violations of restriction and rules of Kursk NPP safe operation. Radiation background is at the level of normal operation of units and doesn't exceed natural background values.
