Angarsk electrolyze chemical complex suspended its operation because of lightening struck electric power lines

On July 6, 2007 at 17:08 local time, lightning damaged the main and reserve electric power lines supplying Angarsk electrolyze chemical complex (Irkutsk region).

As a result of deenergization of separation process the production was suspended. Automatic protection system was operated and uranium hexafluorides was pumped over into specially reserve containers designed for this case.

In 3,5 hours the problems were removed and electricity supply was restored.

Complex's staff was effectively acting in accordance with instructions.

Radiation background corresponds to normal level.
