Rostechnadzor head: 143 violations of nuclear rules at Russian NPP were revealed in 2007

Nuclear supervision is top-priority line of Rostechnadzor activity (Russian Federal Service for Environmental, Technological and Nuclear Supervision), the head of Rostechnadzor Constantine Pulikovsky said at international Forum of the countries operating VVER-type reactors held in Dubna, Moscow region.

Rostechnadzor will take an active part in construction of new units within active development of nuclear power. Pulikovsky also noted that every year Rostechnadzor carries out about 2000 inspections of all kinds at five Russian NPP with VVER-type reactors. Rostechnadzor inspections revealed 175 violations of safety rules in 2005 and 350 violations - in 2006. This year 143 violations have been revealed (till June 20, 2007).

The measures were taken for all violations, - Pulikovsky added.

On July 3, 2007 International Forum of the countries operating VVER-type reactors launched in Dubna.

The heads of supervision services of Russia, Armenia, Bulgaria, Czechia, Finland, Hungary, India, Iran, Slovakia and Ukraine, as well as IAEA's representatives were discussing issues of improving supervision, control and inspection activity, that is very important for NPP safety.

On 4 March, an intergovernmental agreement on principles of cooperation in the construction of a SMR (small modular reactor) in Myanmar was signed during the state visit of Myanmar leadership to Russia.
The document was signed in the presence of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Chairman of the State Administration Council and Prime Minister of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, by Alexey Likhachev, Rosatom State Corporation Director General, and Dr. Myo Thein Kyaw, Union Minister of Science and Technology of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar.
