Uralchimmash sent a special wagon with container for irradiated nuclear fuel for tests

Open joint-stock company Uralchimmash completed the assembling of transport-packing container mock-up (TUK-84) for special wagon for transportation of containers with nuclear waste. Special wagon was sent to manufacturer - Tver Carriage-Building Works ("Tverskoy Vagonostroitelniy Zavod", TVZ) for carrying out certification tests, Uralchimmash' information center said.

The design of this wagon was developed by FGUP "CKB TM" (central design bureau) in cooperation with specialists of NC RF - VNIITF especially for nuclear waste transportation from the Beloyarsk NPP in special Uralchimmash's transport-packing containers.

Commission of this wagon is planned in September, 2007. In the case of successful completion of tests, TVZ will manufacture four similar wagons more.

Note that TUK-84 is designed for transportation and storage of irradiated nuclear fuel. The advantage of TUK is the use of multi-layer envelops for manufacturing casing. It allows to increase reliability of TUK by using sheet steel with high and stable mechanical properties.

In September, 2004 transport-packing container TUK-84 passed IAEA requirements tests successfully at testing ground of KBSM (design bureau) near St Petersburg.
