WANO has Supported 53 New Nuclear Units in the last 8 Years to Achieve a Safe and Reliable Start Up Worldwide
New figures available from the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) demonstrate that WANO has delivered 159 New Unit Assistance missions to 53 new nuclear units worldwide since 2015.
They underline the Association unique track record in supporting new nuclear units and technologies worldwide to start up safely and reliably.
WANO new unit assistance benefits all nuclear operators that are constructing or preparing to start up new units, whether they are in countries or regions with existing nuclear power stations, or in nations that are embarking on a nuclear programme for the first time.

WANO hosts industry leaders from 26 countries at its Global CNO Forum in Abu Dhabi
WANO hosted its annual Global Chief Nuclear Officers (CNO) Forum 2023 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Thursday 19 and Friday 20 October 2023.
It provided an opportunity for senior leaders in the industry globally to come together to network and build relationships with their peers, discuss the progress of the global industry improvement initiative, Action for Excellence - Shaping the Nuclear Future (AfE), and take necessary actions towards improving industry performance worldwide.
In addition, it provided a chance for delegates to address key challenges and opportunities, exchange information, and discuss best practices in maximising the safety and reliability of the world's plants and utilities.

At its sixteenth Biennial General Meeting (BGM), held in Prague, Czech Republic from 9 - 11 October 2022, members of the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) convened to discuss the key opportunities and challenges for the industry over the coming years, under the conference theme of One WANO - A Commitment to Nuclear Excellence.
Due to the pandemic, it was the first opportunity in three years for senior global counterparts to meet face to face to discuss key issues. Topics included the industry-led improvement initiative Action for Excellence, leading industry change, industry innovation, the benefits of WANO secondments, and a young generation perspective of the nuclear industry.

Leningrad NPP-2 Unit 2 Successfully Passes WANO Pre-start-up Peer Review
Experts of the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) Moscow Centre have completed a pre-start-up peer review of the Leningrad NPP-2 Unit 2.
The purpose of review was to assess the readiness of the unit for safe start-up and further operation. Peer reviews are conducted at operating nuclear power plants once every four years, including at the start-up stage.
During the inspection at the Leningrad NPP, the team of international experts verified the operational, fire and emergency readiness of the power unit, as well as the level of safety culture among the plant personnel. The World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) has appointed Ingemar Engkvist, the current Director of the WANO Paris Centre, as Chief Executive Officer.
The appointment was made at the organisation Governing Board meeting in Prague on 20 June 2019.
Ingemar will formally replace current WANO CEO, Peter Prozesky, on 1 January 2020. Mr Prozesky began his tenure in January 2016.

The World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) is encouraging governments worldwide to ensure that national export control laws do not adversely affect WANO ability to maximise the safe operation of commercial nuclear power plants.
Export controls ensure that goods, equipment and technical information exported from a country or area do not contribute to the proliferation of nuclear weapons, and also protect national and international security by restricting access to sensitive nuclear technologies, materials and capabilities.
However, some nations export controls arrangements are impacting the ability of WANO to conduct activities focused on the safe operation of existing commercial nuclear power plants.
