Mr. KHAIRUL: Indonesia works closely with the IAEA
Indonesia is fully committed to implement the protection of nuclear material and radioactive sources against theft and sabotage. Indonesia works closely with the IAEA, and we have signed the NPT and safeguard agreement and additional protocol in order to make sure that all nuclear items are in the secure and safe position.
As you know, Indonesia plans to build the nuclear power plant in the future, in 2017. We need the nuclear power because we have to support the electrical production. In our country we have lack of electricity, in particular for Jawa island. We hope that nuclear power will enhance our industry and ultimately will support economics growth.
The nuclear program in Indonesia is proposed for using the energy for peaceful uses. So far we make some cooperation with other countries such as the United States. We are working jointly with those governments to support our physical protection efforts. Indonesia is facing the real threats from the terrorist groups, and we do not want that the terrorist attacks would repeat again, in particular in the nuclear facility.
